Gel Properties of Carboxymethyl Hyaluronic Acid/Polyacrylic Acid Hydrogels Prepared by Electron Beam Irradiation

Semi-synthetic hydrogels made of carboxymethyl hyaluronic acid (CMHA) and polyacrylic (PAA) were synthesized using electron beam irradiation. CMHA, with a degree substitution 0.87 molecular weight 149 kDa, was mixed linear PAA slightly crosslinked (Carbopol). The equal ratio the CMHA-Carbopol blends (10% 10% Carbopol) successfully crosslinked, even at low irradiation dose 20 kGy, producing hydrogel 60% gel fraction 430 g/g degrees swelling. properties this formulation showed good stability when exposed in PBS (pH 7.4) 37 °C. Furthermore, FT-IR spectra Carbopol an increase peak intensity 1405 cm−1 due to neutralization reaction between COOH COO- groups CMHA polymers. interaction effects concentration varying doses CMHA-PAA will be explored future study. Radiation crosslinking biocompatible other synthetic polymers, such as PAA, provides cleaner method biomaterials tunable that are ideal for pharmaceutical, medical, cosmetic applications.
